You didn’t break a rule. Your protest did.
Hail → Flag → File → Verdict. A sailing protest procedure quiz wrapped in a protest-room meme.
Three flash incidents. Hail on time, fly the flag when you must, file before the desk closes, then defend with model boats. Survive the jury.
Tip: procedure fails before rules arguments. Keep your hail loud and your form on time.
Primary keyword target: protest room sailing game. Secondary coverage: sailing protest procedure quiz, how to protest in sailing racing quiz, hail / flag decisions, and a light two-turns note.
If the other boat already spun two turns for the same incident, your hearing may end with “penalty already taken.” Causing injury or serious damage is a different story — retiring can be required. This page keeps that as a side beat so the protest-room loop stays short.
As soon as reasonably possible after the incident — ideally while boats are still nearby. Silence is how many protests die before the room. See World Sailing RRS Part 5.
Hull length 6 m or more: display a red flag conspicuously at the first reasonable opportunity. Dinghies often hail-only unless the SIs say otherwise. Check your event’s NoR/SIs.
Late hail, missing flag when required, filing after the time limit, muddy incident text, or naming the wrong boat. Procedure can end the case before right-of-way talk starts.
Hail → (flag if required) → written protest on time → hearing with clear positions. Outcomes include DSQ, redress, invalid protest, or no further penalty after Two-Turns / retirement.
No. Entertainment / training vibe only. Not a substitute for the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 2025–2028) or a real protest committee.
